WHAT'S
INVOLVED IN ONE OF JAN'S CLASSES?
In
Yoga we have a system of 'steps' that were taken from the ancient Sutras
and transcribed by a man called Patanjali. for the people of his time. He
talks about the 'Eight Limbs (or steps) of Yoga'.
Jan will integrate all of these aspects of Yoga into her work where
possible and appropriate, using a variety of techniques.
Emphasis
is always placed on letting go of mental and physical tension.
You will be encouraged to work at your own pace through progressive
gentle stretches and develop your physical ability with full awareness and
respect for your spine, before moving into full asanas.
You will also be taken through techniques that can help aid your
progress towards improving your whole well-being.
Such techniques could include relaxation, energy balancing
exercises, various concentration techniques and the use of imagery.
As the breath is the key to good health, simple breathing
techniques will always be included.
As progress is made you will be encouraged to develop your asana
and pranayama practices, the use of sound and chanting, chakra work, Yoga
Nidra and meditation.
Coordination,
strength and flexibility can improve through the practice of Yoga and as
you develop a greater awareness of how you use your physical body, a more
relaxed mind and a deeper understanding of your whole being will emerge. |
