Rapport and Coaching

A good coach will find ways of helping you to become motivated to make and sustain significant change.

For a coach to make exceptional demands of you it is of paramount importance that you get on well with each other and there is excellent rapport. It is very important that you feel good about the relationship you have with your coach and that you feel you can get on with this person.

Motivation to make change is directly related to the degree of rapport you have with your coach. A coach who fails to achieve rapport with you is unlikely to successfully assist you in making the changes you want to make.

Keep in mind these questions –

'Can you trust and respect this person?’

'Do you think you can get on well?’

Make a special note of how you feel when you leave the consultation.

If you feel uncomfortable then this is a strong indicator of lack of rapport and you probably will not succeed with this particular coach.
