Vacancy: Principal Cellist
Check over any of the pages on this website and you will see that The Cloud Ensemble is a different kind of 'classical' band.
Andrew Hodges, the guiding light behind the Cloud Ensemble has a creative philosophy based on the notion of 'Music For All'. This means that we in The Cloud have a diverse, non-elitist, inclusive approach to music-making. This informs all our musical decisions.
Based on the classical string quartet, the Cloud Ensemble is a small group of amateur musicians who perform music designed for a much broader, more inclusive audience than is normally the case.
Employing the string quartet as our starting point, we add other instruments in a variety of combinations; a solo soprano, a solo guitarist, a solo violinist or a french horn. Additionally our byline is "real and virtual' which means that we, in a very creative sense, fully embrace present-day culture & its technology.
Andrew recomposes, rearranges and creates our music in a classical style in such a way as to appeal to the many different types of people who are now becoming much more attracted to the classical 'style' of music. This new audience likes classical but wants something which speaks more directly to them.
So our concerts are different.
We have created for Vivaldi, his own Baroque music video.
We take 20th & 21st century pop music and send it back in time 200 years.
We even play a musical computer game live on stage!
If you're wondering what there is to do at the moment with Covid getting in the way, the answer is "Plenty!" After this pandemic is all over The Cloud will be stronger than ever and performing brilliant, innovative concerts which audiences will want to come to. We don't know when that will be but we will do it when it is safe which it certainly isn't at the moment.
However we have a wonderful alternative to being able to get together; we are creating the Cloud Corona Collection; our virtual concert. We are making use of the lockdowns and restrictions for preparation and practice, composing & arranging. Over and above this we're working together to create music videos of our repertoire. Everyone of us is thoroughly enjoying the experience and gaining so much through the process.
So despite all the difficulties we're thriving.
So with our philosophy and approach to music in mind, would you like to be involved in this wonderful project? Do get in touch to have a chat, to talk things through and see if it might work for you.
Just a few things you might like to know:
We do no more than 2 or 3 concerts a year.
We rehearse roughly once a month.
We're looking for a good amateur cellist who wants to perform like us, to audiences who really appreciate what we do, and who would like to enjoy the opportunity to play with a creative and enthusiastic group of people.
If you are interested do get in touch with Andrew who can tell you more about what's involved. You can use the form on this page or you can text, call or email, whichever suits you best. The contact info is in the footer of this page.
